Standard Wax began with the idea that art doesn’t have to be extravagant, and it doesn’t need to be crazy expensive or exclusive either. I’ve always believed that art can be a part of your everyday, and that candles could certainly be art.
For the past year or so, I’ve felt that basic founding principle slipping away. We grew a lot and keeping up with growth means doing what you need to do to fulfill the needs coming at you fast. It doesn’t leave a lot of space for reflection or new ideas, experiments and r+d.
Last week, I decided to try out a new model: instead of making thousands of something and playing a game where I see how many people I can get to buy it, I decided to make just a few. They were a little more expensive, and you had to be on your toes to grab one.
I am so, so happy to report back that the launch completely blew me away. If I’m being honest, I was pretty anxious that no one would see the post, and if they did see it they wouldn’t be interested in purchasing. I was super worried that I’d be really embarrassed when only one or two things sold.
This new method was really inspiring. I want to be creative, work with artists, develop more. Moving forward, I’m going to be on a mission to make sure that our guiding light is Bringing Art Into Your Everyday. Look out for some seriously cool artist collaborations coming soon, as well as more fun stuff like last week's launch.
As always, thank you so much for supporting Standard Wax and my crazy ideas. This one meant a lot!
