White Tea + Thyme is one of those scents that happened 100% by accident. Downtime in the candle lab is spent developing new scents, which oftentimes means creating new blends with the random samples sent to us by our supplier. These samples can have some really ridiculous names, so you can’t always judge these books by their covers. The only way to give a new oil a chance is to make a candle with it.
During a day of testing out new samples, a few things were randomly blended together and left to cure overnight. In the morning, we were pleasantly surprised.
“Andrew, I made a candle that smells like the Westin.”
This was a big deal, considering that we’re constantly traveling. We have become familiar with the scents pumped into different hotels and had always been fascinated with how that plays into marketing and creating loyal customers. Now, we get to witness it firsthand. It’s incredible to watch customers pick up our White Tea + Thyme candle and sit there, pondering, trying to put their finger on why it’s sending memories all over their brain.
Us: “Have you ever stayed at a Westin?”
Customer: “OH MY GOD, YES, THIS CANDLE REMINDS ME OF OUR HONEYMOON/TRIP TO HAWAII/FAVORITE VACATION EVER”
Scent is a crazy, crazy sense that we have.
